One of the things I value the most is my vision. I’ve always hated going out of the house and forgetting either
my contact lens or glasses. I found a great ad in a newspaper that said I could fix my vision. The one thing that
stood out about it was the laser eye surgery cost.
Most people are referred by friends to go and have their vision fixed but there are now advertisements in
virtually every newspaper for LASIK Enhancement and correction. Before this technology was available I had always
said that I would pay anything to get rid of my glasses for good. So let’s look at a few points and the cost of
laser vision correction.
I’ve seen prices for eye surgery from $400-$4000 per eye. Part of this huge discrepancy is due to the location
of the eye surgeons themselves. Just as you would expect groceries to cost more in a northern town with a
population of 5000, eye surgery is similar. But location isn’t the only factor. Depending on the work needed to fix
your vision and the type of surgery needed will also reflect the price drastically. Your laser eye surgery cost
shouldn’t worry you if you prepare to pay around $2000 per eye. This gives you some room to breathe.
You really do get what you pay for in terms of quality. Just because you get a deal with all kinds of other
bonuses with your surgery isn’t the reason you should choose that particular eye clinic. In fact most of your
decision should be based on the surgeon’s reputation, your friend’s opinions, and non-paid referrals.
Another popular option these days is to pay the bill using a medial loan service that the eye clinic usually
recommends. These loans are usually interest free or ones that contain a very small interest fee. You still need to
be approved as if you were applying for a credit card but the benefit is that you will be able to see again.
One of most disappointing things associated with laser eye surgery costs is that most insurance companies do not
cover any of it. Laser eye surgery has been deemed a “cosmetic surgery” and therefore they escape out of covering
anything. Some jobs like police enforcement will offer it because it definitely benefits their officers. Hopefully
insurance companies change their coverage in the near future because there are a lot of people who would benefit
from proper vision who just can’t afford the current costs.
The cost of eye surgery is extremely small compared to what you should get out of it. But you must make sure
that you do your due diligence before going ahead with it. If you have any doubts or questions, you should
definitely speak to your eye specialist for up to date information. It just may be that corrective eye surgery
isn’t for you.
